Have you ever heard someone say that something was “like pulling teeth”? This is meant to show that someone doesn’t want to do something.

And to be honest, most of the time, we want to help you keep all your teeth in your mouth. The reality, however, is that sometimes it really is in your best interest to remove a tooth or teeth.

We don’t recommend tooth extractions unless we see a benefit for you. But when we do, we can perform this procedure at our Boynton Beach, FL dental office. Today, we want to go over some of those times with taking out a tooth could be what saves your smile.

To learn more or to schedule a tooth removal, contact Hugh B. Rosenblatt, DMD, by calling 561-877-3802.

Preserve Your Smile

If pulling teeth is seen as a bad thing, then it may be better to look at it as cutting your losses. When a tooth or teeth are actually causing a problem for your oral health, then removing the problem can set the stage for a healthy smile down the road.

So, when would you want to do this?

One time would be if you have a severely infected tooth. A tooth infection has the potential to spread to other parts of your mouth and put more teeth at risk. If it’s possible to save a tooth with a dental crown or a root canal , that would be our preference. It’s better to keep a tooth than to remove one. Nevertheless, there are times when the infection is so severe that the tooth is too weak to keep.

Likewise, a dental injury may require removing a tooth. A deep break or crack may cause a tooth to be so damaged that it should be taken out.

In both of the examples above, we would likely recommend replacing your extracted tooth as well. Your best option would be to get a dental implant to support a dental crown. This will give you a complete tooth replacement that looks, feels, and functions like the real thing.

You also might want to remove teeth in preparation for another treatment. For younger patients, we may remove one or a few teeth before they begin orthodontic care. When crowding is contributing to alignment problems, taking out some teeth can make orthodontic treatment easier and more effective.

At the other end of the age bracket, you may want to remove teeth if you only have a few teeth left. This can make it easier to get implant-supported dentures to restore the function and appearance of a healthy, natural smile.

Get Your Pain-Free Procedure

Thinking about have teeth taken out can make many people anxious. It’s understandable that you might be concerned that this kind of procedure could be painful.

Fortunately, that’s not a concern if you come to our office. With our sedation dentistry , you can have any treatment done without any pain. That includes removing a tooth or placing an implant if needed.

Don’t Risk Your Smile For A Bad Tooth

To use one last bit of popular wisdom, don’t let a rotten apple spoil the rest. In this case, a bad tooth can create more trouble than it’s worth for your oral health.

To find out if a tooth extraction could be beneficial for you, contact Dr. Rosenblatt online or by calling 561-877-3802 to request a consultation.
